Chocolate Sugar Cookies

 

Ingredients & Directions


2 cup All-purpose flour sifted

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2  teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup Sugar

1 cup unsalted butter

1/4 shortening
2 Eggs
2 tablespoons Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract


In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, butter, and sugar with an electric mixer at medium to high speed for about 30 seconds, or until softened. Then add the eggs, milk, vanilla extract then mix. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Then add about half of the flour mixture and beat until thoroughly combined, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally. Beat or stir in the remaining flour. Divide the dough in half. Cover and chill for 1 to 2 hours or until easy to handle. Roll each portion of the dough to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut into the desired shapes. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. If desired, sprinkle with candies or colored sugar before baking. Bake in a 375 F oven for 7 to 9 minutes or until the edges are firm. Remove the cookies and cool on a rack.


Makes 3 to 4 dozen cookies.
